Can you help our MASH Ambassadors smash their CEO Sleepout fundraising goal?

A champion of Manchester businesses is calling on the generosity of Mancunians to sponsor her night sleeping out under the stars to help people experiencing homelessness and poverty in our city.

Stella Bowdell, director of membership at Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, has signed up to take part in CEO Sleepout on 15 October, her first official action as our charity ambassador.

MASH (Manchester Action on Street Health) is an official charity partner of CEO Sleepout and supports female sex workers to keep them safe and empower them to make decisions that affect their lives.  Many of the women we support are homeless, sleeping in tents or cars, ‘sofa surfing’ with people they barely know or walking the streets at night.

Stella was inspired to become an ambassador for MASH after learning about the work we do to support female sex workers, many of whom face danger every night working on the streets of Manchester. MASH works with women to support them with issues including finding safe accommodation, mental illness and support to address addictions.

Stella will be joined by our new team of five volunteer MASH ambassadors all taking part in CEO Sleepout on Monday 15 October at Emirates Stadium in Old Trafford. Money raised will go directly to Manchester charities including MASH, which fight homelessness and poverty.

Stella’s team has an ambitious fundraising target of £5,000 and is calling on friends and colleagues in the city to help them reach it.

Stella said; “I am proud to be joining this inspiring team of businesswomen spending a night sleeping outside to highlight the hardship some women face every single night.

“MASH provides a vital lifeline to many women in our city who have nowhere else to turn. CEO Sleepout has been a partner to MASH for a number of years and last year enabled the charity to purchase its new mobile drop in van, which travels around the streets of Manchester late at night enabling women to get on board for safety advice, a warm drink and referrals to case workers who can help them find a safe, secure home.

“Every penny raised from CEO Sleepout will make a difference to people facing extreme hardship in Manchester and I urge people to give what they can to support myself and my fellow MASH ambassadors in our fundraising efforts. Thank you!”

Speaking on behalf of MASH, fundraising & marketing officer Janelle Hardacre, said: “MASH provides support to women on the streets of Manchester, many of whom are in crisis situations. Thanks to people like Stella and our amazing ambassadors we are able to continue our vital work with women in desperate situations as demand for our services increases.”

Bianca Robinson, CEO Sleepout said “Every year business leaders come together to stand in solidarity with people in Manchester who are experiencing real poverty and those who are homeless. I am very grateful for the people that give up their time to fundraise and take part, and I have no doubt that with leaders like Stella on board the event will be an enormous success again this year.
